The Importance of Mindset
Rewind six months and I was not in the best place. I felt a little like I was stuck in a rut, just going through the motions and not really enjoying life, and in particular, my job. When you work full-time, you spend a whole lot of time at work, so when you’re just not that into it, it kind of spills out into the rest of your life and sucks the happy out of you.
Now though, I’m a whole lot happier, more content and managing to find joy in my job, and yet nothing’s changed. I’m still in the same job, working the same hours and seeing the same people. The only thing that has changed is my mindset and how I think about life.
You see, the thing is, if you keep thinking about how much you dislike something, how much you don’t want to do it, and how much happier you would be if the weekend would just hurry up, then you’re telling yourself that the situation you are in at that moment isn’t deserving of your time or attention and so it begins to make you miserable.
All I did was flip it around; I started thinking about things in a positive light, started looking forward to my days and making a real effort to be happy and energised. I was sceptical at first, but it really did work.
It can be difficult when you are surrounded by negativity but being the happy person among that can do wonders both for yourself and for the people around you. Don’t you always feel happier when someone you talk to is really happy and super nice to you? I know I do so I figured I needed start being that person.
Changing your mindset is hard and sometimes others will grind you down, but it’s also the most rewarding thing and will make you feel at least 50% better. Try it; you’ve got nothing to lose.
